The father of Sadio Mane’s 18-year-old bride has revealed that she had a traditional arranged marriage to the footballer and that they did not date before tying the knot.
The former Liverpool star married Aisha Tamba in an Islamic ceremony on January 7 in Keur Massar, a suburb in the capital city of Dakar.
The marriage took place in Aisha’s home and was attended by family and close friends.
Her father Amadou Tamba revealed that his daughter is aged 18 and that Mane, 31, first set eyes on her ‘more than two years ago’ when she went to visit his family with her mother.
Mr Tamba said: ‘My wife and Aisha visited their (Mane’s) family one day, and this is where he met her for the first time.
‘He probably saw something special in her and his parents appreciated her as well. They came to see me. We discussed as per the tradition, agreed on everything and waited for this day to happen.’
He added: ‘They were not dating because Aisha was still young.’
Speaking to local media, Mr Tamba confirmed: ‘She is 18…. It (the first time Mane saw her) was more than two years ago.’
According to local reports, the marriage was agreed upon while she was still at school with the decision reached by both families to wait until she reached 18 so that she could finish her studies. Mane has been reportedly funding her education.
Mr Tamba said: ‘With the values and all that she heard about him, she accepted voluntarily. But as parents, we also guided and advised her to freely make up her mind. God did what’s best for her.’
According to friends of the family, Mane’s uncle, who is close friends with Mr Tamba, acted as a go-between with an imam visiting him to make a formal marriage proposal on behalf of the footballer.
Mr Tamba is a wealthy contractor in the construction industry who revealed that he has been working closely with Mane and his family on a number of projects since 2013.
He also said that he had grown close to the multi-millionaire footballer and appreciated his values, which influenced his decision to agree to the marriage.
He said: ‘I knew that Sadio and all his family are very good and humble people. Sadio is just the reflection of his family.
‘However, as a father, I also needed to know more about him, his education, his faith in God, humility. And I came to know much more that he is a good person.
‘Sadio and I talk much about the projects, but we also talk about life in general and he taught me a lot, although he is still young. He knows a lot about life, and I learnt much from him. So, that’s why I didn’t hesitate to accept his request to marry Aisha.’
Mr Tamba said that he had developed a close bond with Mane over the years.
He added: ‘There is a strong trust in our relationship. This is not about his fame or his wealth. The first thing I like about him is his good education.
‘And now that I have given him my daughter, I would like him to take good care of her and especially to live as per the Muslim commandments, because he is a good Muslim.
‘I would like him to help her grow, though she is doing her best, this is very important for me.’
The proud father described his daughter as a ‘pious’ Muslim who has good knowledge of the Quran.
Asked what advice he had for the footballer following his marriage he said: ‘I would like to tell him that marriage is not easy. I would advise him to treat her like his own daughter, his own sister. To support her. He has already been doing it…but I would like him to enhance this support.

In an interview with Miguel Granados on OLGA last year, Messi admitted he ‘wasn’t happy’ at the Parc des Princes and seemed disappointed with his treatment after the World Cup.
‘It was understandable,’ he said. ‘We were in a situation where we [Argentina] were world champions and it was our fault that they [France] weren’t champions once again.’
Both Messi and his former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe starred in a thrilling final in Qatar, scoring five goals between them as Argentina won on penalties.
Al-Khelaifi has now revealed that he could not allow Messi to celebrate at Parc des Princes because Mbappe was on the losing side.
In an interview with RMC TV, Al-Khelaifi said: ‘For me, like I said, if anyone talks about the fact that we didn’t celebrate him enough after he won the World Cup, we’re in France and he won against Kylian.
‘We are a French club. I don’t want the whole stadium to be against him either. I think we have to respect that.’
Back in September, Al-Khelaifi gave a different version of events following Messi’s interview on OLGA. In quotes carried by Football Espana, he said: ‘As everyone saw, because we even published a video, we celebrated Messi in training, and we also celebrated him in private.
‘But with respect, we are a French club. It was of course sensitive to celebrate at the stadium. We must respect the country he defeated, his teammates on the France team, and our supporters too.’

A female prison officer who was caught on camera having sex with an inmate in a store cupboard has been jailed for 16 months.
Shania Begum, 25, was found to have slept with with Joshua Mulllings after striking up an ‘inappropriate relationship’ while working at HMP Birmingham.
A court heard she used the store cupboard to engage in ‘play fighting, flirting, heavy petting and penetrative sex’ with the inmate at the Category B men’s prison.
But their secret rendezvous were uncovered when prison bosses became suspicious and installed a camera that caught them in the act.
Begum, of Telford, Shropshire, previously admitted misconduct in a public office and was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court today.
Sentencing, Judge John Butterfield said: ‘As time went by you fell under suspicion and secret surveillance cameras were set up in the store cupboard.’
‘You and he repeatedly spent time together in that store cupboard to be physically intimate, up to and including penetrative physical acts,’ he added.
‘You were observed engaging in consensual activity whilst on duty.’ He said what she had done had a ‘corrosive effect’ on the prison system.
Butterfield noted that it was the prisoners’ duty to keep the store cupboard tidy and one of those prisoners included Mullings.
The court heard an anti-corruption probe was carried out after prison intelligence led bosses to believe she was having a relationship with the prisoner.
Daniel Oscroft, prosecuting, said: ‘At the time she was a prison officer at HMP Birmingham and had been from December 3, 2018.
‘The intelligence suggested that then relationship was intimate and taking place within a store cupboard within the prison.
‘Cameras were placed within the store cupboard and between September 22 and 29 2022 the defendant and Joshua Mullings were observed engaging in sexual activity.’
The court heard the activity also included Begum giving Mr Mullings oral sex on at least two occasions.
The footage also showed on some occasions Begum’s radio would go off, which she ignored, and she had also been interrupted by other members of staff.
There was one time when she could not be located for about an hour.
When she was arrested her phone was seized and her internet browsing history revealed she had had an interest in Mullings and media reports written about him.
Mr Oscroft said her conduct: ‘Undermines confidence in the prison system, causes problems with prison order and has an impact on the stability and welfare of the prison estate.’

Clenney, 27, is charged with murder in the death of 28-year-old Christian Obumseli on April 3, 2022, in their Miami high-rise apartment. She claims Obumseli was abusing her and that she acted in self-defense during a fight.
Recall that Clenney, 27, walked free for a while after claiming that she acted in self-defense when she stabbed Obumseli.
Black Americans refused to demand justice for Obumseli because of the derogatory posts he made about Black women.
However, his family later released a statement, urging people to overlook his “ignorant” tweets as he was immature at the time. They then begged the public to join their family in seeking justice.
A new video has now emerged showing what happened during one of the couple’s trips.
In February 2022, the couple traveled to Aspen, Colo. for a content trip, according to TMZ. During that trip, the couple got involved in an explosive argument in front of at least one other person, who apparently recorded the interaction on their phone. That footage was published for the first time on Thursday, Jan. 11.
The video shows Clenney attempting multiple times to strike Obumseli, who holds her off and grabs her arms. Clenney also accuses Obumseli of flirting with other girls on the retreat, which he denies.
After nearly three minutes of shouting, Clenney tells Obumseli to leave the house. He responds that she’ll “never see me again” and calls her “the most selfish motherf***er I’ve ever met in my life.”
Investigators have said Clenney and Obumseli had a volatile and violent relationship and have produced evidence of that in the lead-up to her trial.
Multiple audio recordings of their arguments were recorded on Obumseli’s phone, including Clenney calling him the n-word and cursing him out. Additionally, security video from the elevator at their Miami building captured Clenney pushing and punching Obumseli multiple times.
Another fight erupted on the day of Obumseli’s death. Prosecutors have argued that Clenney attacked Obumseli and stabbed him to death. Clenney said she was fighting back against Obumseli’s abuse.
